Toothaches

A toothache is your body's signal that something needs attention, and the causes range from minor to serious. Common culprits include tooth decay, a cracked or chipped tooth, a loose or lost filling, an exposed root, or food lodged between teeth. Sometimes the discomfort comes from gum irritation or grinding rather than the tooth itself.

For temporary relief, gently rinse with warm water, floss carefully to remove any trapped debris, and avoid very hot, cold, or sweet foods. An over-the-counter pain reliever can help, but don't place aspirin directly against the gum, as it can burn the tissue.

Because a toothache rarely resolves on its own, it's important to have it evaluated rather than wait for it to pass. Call the office if pain persists more than a day or two, or sooner if you notice swelling, fever, or severe pain, so we can find and treat the cause.
